The Whomping Willows (Blog) |
Notes from the road, thoughts on the creative process, and an occasional glimpse of Woonsocket from my living room. |
I’m having this experience as I work on my new record where the songs I’ve written appear in my head as these well-orchestrated rock anthems, but when I get down to recording them… I just can’t get them to sound the way I’m hearing them in my mind. I’ve always written songs in my head. A chorus will appear, sometimes with or without words, and whether or not I’m able to flesh out the idea depends entirely on where I am in relation to my guitar. This has been happening for as long as I can remember; if I’m going through a dry spell with music, it’s because the songs just aren’t coming to me. Anyway. These ten songs have come to me and I’ve been able to complete them on paper, but in practice? I’ve got a lot of work to do. Happily, it’s work that I really want to do, because I believe this album is going to kick ass.
